Clay and Sound, Jennifer Lucy Allan (Signed)
"Writing a book about clay and ceramics, I kept running into sound. I was looking for material objects, but found sounds, musicians, composers among the pots. For a while, it seemed ceramics were ringing everywhere I went, metaphorically speaking, in silent reading rooms and hushed galleries, but also in factories, studios and palaces. Instead of quieting the noise, I listened in."
Includes five zines with Jennifer interviewing artists and musicians who work with ceramics in their practice. Interviewees include:
– artist Keith Harrison
– Ghatam player Prathap Ramachandra
– Bristol music duo Copper Sounds
– Sound artist Gemma Luz Bosch
– Musician Tomoko Sauvage
Also included are:
– Nine risographed images of historical clay instruments
– Eight fragments featuring anecdotes, memories, encounters and quotes, by Tori Kudo, MC Richards, Michael Cardew & others.
All contents were risographed and hand assembled by Jennifer and DR.ME at The Engine House Studio in Salford, housed in an archive grade box folder, screen-printed by Anchor End. Produced as a companion publication to Clay: A Human History.
